GOODBYE MISS P!
Shared Lunch in the last week of Term 2 to say goodbye to Miss Phillips. So much food - thank you everyone for bringing it all!
Tangrams
Tangrams are an ancient Chinese puzzle. There are 7 shapes that can be arranged to show pictures. We watch the following video.

And then rearranged the shapes to make the pictures:http://britton.disted.camosun.bc.ca/tangram.swf
Next Step: We had a copy of the tangram pieces each and used these pieces to practice making the 3 pigs black shapes. Once we had made a shape, we drew it in our math mental books, showing the pieces we used. The hard part was using all 7 pieces in each picture!

What better way to explore Ratios than to make Play Dough?
We discovered the amounts of each ingredient had an effect on the consistency of the Play Dough.
Here were our original ratios:

PLAYDOUGH
Materials:
·
large mixing bowl
·
1 cup water
·
4 cups flour
·
2 to 4 tablespoons of canola cooking oil
·
1 1/2 cups of salt
·
food colouring
Instructions
1. Pour water into a large
mixing bowl.
2. Next add food
colouring. Once you add the food colouring to the water, stir well.
3. Add the dry
ingredients (flour and salt) to the mix. You can stir a little at this point
to begin blending the ingredients.
4. Next add 2 to 4
tablespoons of oil. You can add more oil later if the mix seems to dry. Oil is the
secret to keeping this "no cooking required" recipe soft! If you
don't add enough oil, the mix will be very crumbly.
5. Knead the
ingredients together until a soft dough is formed.
To store, simply
roll the dough into small balls and keep in plastic bags or a plastic
container!
