ANZAC

Anzac Day occurs on 25 April. It commemorates all New Zealanders killed in war and also honours returned servicemen and women.
The date itself marks the anniversary of the landing of New Zealand and Australian soldiers – the Anzacs – on the Gallipoli Peninsula in 1915. The aim was to capture the Dardanelles, the gateway to the Bosphorus and the Black Sea. At the end of the campaign, Gallipoli was still held by its Turkish defenders.
Thousands lost their lives in the Gallipoli campaign: 87,000 Turks, 44,000 men from France and the British Empire, including 8500 Australians. To this day, Australia also marks the events of 25 April. Among the dead were 2779 New Zealanders, about a sixth of those who served on Gallipoli.

LOCK DOWN PRACTICE

This week Room 22 had a focus of Keeping Safe.

We started the week with a Hazard Walk.  Walking around the school, we identified the hazards, the problems that could occur and a solution to these hazards so we could keep safe.   In our thinking books we created a table of the hazards we had found.

Emergency Procedures
The whole school had 2 emergency practices. The first was a lock down practice on Tuesday and the second was an evacuation practice on Wednesday.

Water Wise Session 2

Thursday 7th April was only the second time Room 22 had been to Water Wise - not counting the first session where we went but there was not time for us to do the capsize.

Today the Team Work was outstanding from everyone - getting the rescue tenders out, carrying the opti's down to the dock, taking the kayaks out of the shed and down to the ramp, and rigging the optimists.  The best class I have ever seen working together.

Excellent listening skills as well and everyone giving 100 percent even if a little bit scared out on the water properly for the first time.

KIWANO - Horned Melon

Ever tried a Horned Melon?  Its also called a Kiwano.

From our writing in Week 8 and 9, we discovered we needed to learn more about adjectives to describe a noun. Not just any adjective, but specific adjectives that activate the noun - we can see what the noun really looks like.

Fluffy adjectives - beautiful, nice, lovely, pretty - these don't enable us to see what the noun really looks like. What is pretty to one person may not be pretty to another person.

From the experience with the Kiwano, Room 22 wrote diamante poems to use specific nouns and active adjectives. These are published to the blogs. Here are the pictures of the Kiwano experience!

And today was a Mufti Day!

Community Citizenship

Our digital passports are our Digital Citizenship.  We are exploring the cultures in our room over the next few weeks looking at becoming Global Citizens.   Within our school we can also be Community Citizens - taking on responsibility and showing leadership.

Mrs Hamilton gave us the opportunity for leadership with the Year 3 Outdoor Week.  We were assigned to stations and took responsibility for guiding the younger students in the activity.
